Titles are convenient. They tell a room who is supposed to decide. They do not tell you who will stay late to fix a broken process, or who will notice when a teammate is overwhelmed and quietly redistribute the work.
In student organizations especially, the gap between authority and usefulness can be wide. People with titles can still create chaos. People without them can still create clarity. The difference is usually attention — to detail, to people, and to the unglamorous parts of making something run.
I have learned more from watching good operators than from reading leadership frameworks. The best ones make other people more effective and somehow make the improvement feel shared rather than owed.
If you want the title eventually, practice the work first. Rooms notice the people who already lead before anyone asks them to.
